September 23, 2013: St. Pius of Pietrelcina ("Padre Pio"), Priest
Readings- Ezr 1:1-6 King Cyrus: “God gave me kingdoms of the earth, charged me to build him a house."
- Ps 126:1b-6 "The Lord has done marvels for us." Sow in tears; reap rejoicing.
- Lk 8:16-18 Put your lamp on stand so others may see the light. The hidden will become visible; secrets will come to light. More will be given to one who has.
Music
- Light of the world, from Godspell/ Schwartz (gospel). That link, a precious find, is to a 10th anniversary (1981) production reuniting the original Broadway cast and inaugurating The Advent Theatre at First Christian Church of North Hollywood. I was privileged to attend the production with my friend Martin Lo (home; Wikipedia). Here's the 2011 revival version too.
- All that is hidden/ Farrell (sheet music preview) (gospel)
- This little light of mine (almost forgot!)
- Send down the fire/ Haugen (lyrics) (remembering triathlete Fr. Tom Baker's introductory remarks at Saturday's San Fernando Regional Congress. It takes discipline to be a disciple, and we need to know Jesus to share Jesus... (I also like the song, not just for Pentecost or Confirmations, because it's catchy and easy to sing, on only 5 notes in its 32 bars.)
