St. Ignatius of Loyola

July 31, 2013:  St. Ignatius of Loyola

Ex 34:29-35  Radiant-faced Moses came down from Sinai with commandments, speaks with Lord and community.

Ps 99:5, 6, 7, 9  Holy is the Lord our God.

Mt 13:44-46  Kingdom is like person selling all to buy field with buried treasure, merchant selling all to buy pearl of great price.

Re gospel, hear and sing along with (#16, p.19) Dan Schutte's I found the treasure, from collection The Steadfast Love.

  • Tie:  Moses' radiant face, sunglasses for his veil.
  • Suspenders:  green for field with buried treasure
  • Shirt:  green for field, white for Moses' radiance, blue for sky with clouds (re "pillar of cloud" from psalm)

Tie pins:

Stone:  tablets of commandments

Jewel:  treasure

Pearl:  ... of great price

Horse:  see chapter 2 of Autobiography of St. Ignatius.

"Love" sticker on suspenders, affixed by Lucy years ago, refers (among other things) to the prominent place of love in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola (complete text here), especially the Contemplation to Gain Love (§234).

Remember Take, Lord, Receive, Fr. John Foley's setting of that Contemplation, from the St. Louis Jesuits Earthen Vessels collection?  Check it out fresh:
Signable lyrics (not a typo)
