Korean Martyrs

September 20, 2013:  SS. Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn, Priest, and Paul Chŏng Ha-sang, and Companions, Martyrs ("Korean Martyrs")

Readings
Wordle: Readings 9-20-13
  • 1 Tm 6:2c-12  Teach Lord's sound words; avoid envy, rivalry, insults, evil suspicions, mutual friction.  We brought nothing into world, won't take anything out.  Those who want to be rich fall into a trap, foolish desires, ruin.  Avoid love of money, root of evil; pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, gentleness, eternal life to which you're called.
  • Ps 49:6-7, 8-10, 17-20  "Blessed the poor in spirit; the Kingdom of heaven is theirs!"  Why fear ensnarers who boast in their riches?  They can't redeem themselves; they'll lose it all when they die.
  • Lk 8:1-3  Twelve and healed women accompanied itinerant Jesus preaching good news of Kingdom.

Apparel
  • "People around the world" tie: we won't take anything out of the world into which we brought nothing (1st reading), Korean martyrs in solidarity (today's feast)
  • "Airplane" tie pin: Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another (though likely on foot) (gospel)

"Penny pincher" button: Why fear the rich? (psalm)
Music
It's the small things/ Troccoli:  from 1982, but a perfect fit for the first reading and the Pope Francis interview

Bonus
America Magazine exclusive interview with Pope Francis related to today's readings about riches and proclaiming the Kingdom.  Worth every one of its >10K words and more!
