  • Acts 20:17-27  Paul to Miletus presbyters:  “Since I first came to Asia, I've served the Lord and taught you, and I bore witness to repentance and faith.  But now I'm going to Jerusalem; the Spirit has warned me hardships await me there, but I must bear witness to the Gospel and finish the ministry the Lord gave me.  You won't see me again.  I proclaimed God's plan to you, so I'm not responsible for your blood.”
  • Ps 68:10-11, 20-21  "Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth."  You restored the land and provided your flock for the needy.  The Lord our salvation bears our burdens.
  • Jn 17:1-11a  “Father, glorify your son, so your son may glorify you and give eternal life to all you gave him.  I glorified you by accomplishing the work you gave me; now glorify me with the glory I had with you before.  I revealed your name to those you gave me.  They've kept your word and know everything you gave me is from you and that I came from you.  I pray for the ones you gave me because they're yours.  I'll no longer be in the world, but they are, while I'm coming to you.”

    • Creighton:  What work has God given me, and how do I live the life you've been given?  Job, family, community?  The early disciples must have felt they were accomplishing the work they were given.  They formed communities, prayed, fasted, served each other, and lived simple lives.  What impact do I have on people, property, and other living things?  How do I share?  How selfless am I?  Lord, make me aware of my attitude in the moment, and help me discern your call.
    • One Bread One Body:  "Be shrink-proof":  When the Church shrinks, the Lord raises up shrink-resistant people who don't shrink from speaking God's truth....
    • Passionist:  Jesus knew he belonged both to God, his Father, and to us, the people he died for, with love in his heart; but the disciples had trouble understanding to whom they belonged.  Our life is a story of belonging (where, to whom...).  Before we became aware of our thoughts and feelings, we experienced belonging and rejection.  Once we accept that we belong to the God who loves us, we can move forward, leaving behind our human origins and becoming a new, holy people.  Paul found a way to belong and become a disciple, proclaiming and baptizing in Jesus' name.  We belong to God who loves us unconditionally!
    • DailyScripture.net:  The glory Jesus speaks of  is the cross; in it God reveals his love for sinners and the power of redemption.  Jesus gave his Father honor and glory through obedience.  The eternal life Jesus speaks of God's life in us.  Knowledge of God is personal.
"If only I possessed the grace to be at one with you!  Amidst the worldly things around me, Lord, the only thing I crave is unity with you.  You're all I need.  Unite, dear friend of my heart, my unique soul to your goodness.  You're all mine; when shall I be yours?  Lord Jesus, my beloved, be the magnet of my heart; clasp, press, unite me forever to your sacred heart.  You made me for yourself; make me one with you.  Absorb this tiny drop of life into the ocean of goodness it came from." (Francis de Sales)
