For Psalm 80
Read
  • Hos 11:1-4, 8e-9  When Israel was a child I loved him, but the more I called them, the farther they went from me.  My pity is stirred, so I won't vent my anger, for I am God not man.  I won't let the flames consume you.
  • Ps 80:2ac, 3b,15-16  "Let us see your face, Lord, and we shall be saved."  Rouse your power.  Take care of this vine, and protect what you planted.
  • Mt 10:7-15  “As you go, proclaim:  ‘The Kingdom is at hand.’  Cure the sick...  Without cost you've received; without cost give.  Travel light.  When you enter a house, wish it peace.  If you're not received or heard, leave and shake the dust from your feet; it won't be easy for them on judgment day.

  • Creighton:  God's Kingdom is so near that we're in it.  “Paradise is not a place that awaits our arrival, but a present we arrive at, a place we're in.  How [often] are we given an opportunity to practice sacred presence?” (Boyle, Barking to the Choir)  We find paradise by opening our hearts to people; recognizing they're sacred and beloved changes our interactions.  We have all we need, except practice, to be aware.  When we look into the eyes of the person we're with, miracles can begin.  "Awareness that Paradise is in the here and now keeps us from the suffering generated by resisting life as it is.”  "If you're not centered in today, you’ll miss the delight of this moment."  God has such personal love for us.  Jesus invites us to share that love by being present and aware of the sacredness of the present moment.  "Wherever you go, look for a worthy person and wish them peace,” but to Jesus, every person is worthy.

  • One Bread, One Body:  "The Father of Mercies":  Our loving Father is overwhelmed with love for each person. Even if you've never felt your father's love God's fatherly love is tender, like a father who lifts his infant for a kiss.  Picture God raising you for a kiss; imagine God's heart overflowing with love for you, and let him love you today.
  • Passionist:  The way Jesus sent his disciples made them dependent on others' hospitality. When we avail ourselves on others we draw out a gift from them, hospitality.  In a "mission parish," those sent forth intend to share the Good News during the week.  Hospitality is the first sign of God’s presence.
  • DailyScripture.net:  "Freely you received; freely give":  Jesus commissioned his disciples to speak in his name and act with his power, bringing healing and mercy to the weary and oppressed.  May we honor him as Lord and King, serving in charity, peace, and simplicity, not diverted by other things, leaving behind what could distract us.  The Lord will free us from anything that keeps us from loving him and others.  We must share what Jesus has given us without expecting a reward.  May God reign in us and our world....
